Fire alarm devices are hardware components that detect, signal, or control a fire emergency. These devices sense signs of a fire and send a signal to the control panel:
- Smoke Detectors
- Heat Detector
- Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
- Manual Call Points / Pull Stations
- Flow and Tamper Switches
Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP): The central unit that receives input signals, runs diagnostics, reports system status (Alarm, Trouble, or Supervisory), and drives outputs. Systems can be conventional (zone-based), addressable (pinpoints exact device locations), or wireless.
Notification Appliances (Outputs)
These devices alert people nearby to evacuate:
- Audible Devices: Horns, sirens, chimes, bells, and built-in speakers.
- Visual Devices: Flashing LED or strobe lights.
Building Safety Interfaces
- Relays and controllers that automatically shut down HVAC systems, recall elevators to safe floors, release magnetic door holders, or activate smoke dampers.
