The Zeal Wet and Dry Bulb Hygrometer distributed by IBEX SCIENCES is a battery-free mechanical instrument used to measure relative humidity (moisture content) in the air. This instrument (often called a psychrometer) uses the classic Mason’s type design and is essential for weather monitoring, school biology labs, and the textile industry. [1, 2, 3]
How it Works
- The Dry Bulb: Measures the actual, ambient room temperature.
- The Wet Bulb: Its bulb is wrapped in a cotton muslin wick that sits in a small pool of water. As the water evaporates, it cools the thermometer down. [1, 2, 3]
By comparing the temperature difference between the two bulbs, you can easily find the humidity level using the printed reference table included with the device. [1, 2]
Key Product Features
- Dual Scales: Displays temperatures clearly in both Celsius (-10°C to 50°C) and Fahrenheit (20°F to 120°F).
- Eco-Friendly: Uses safe, high-visibility red or blue spirit-filled tubes instead of toxic mercury.
- No Power Required: Operates entirely without batteries, making it dependable for 24/7 continuous room monitoring.
- Mounting Design: Features a tough plastic outer housing with built-in slots to securely mount it onto a wall. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
How to Calculate Relative Humidity
- Read both scales: Note down the temperature of the dry bulb and the wet bulb.
- Find the depression: Subtract the wet bulb temperature from the dry bulb temperature to get your difference.
- Check the chart: Locate your dry bulb temperature on the left side of the Zeal printed hygrometric chart. Move your finger sideways until you hit your calculated temperature difference column to find your exact humidity percentage (%). [1, 2]
